- I think my child might need therapy! What do I do? If your child is between the ages of birth and three, call the Health Department in your County and ask to speak to an Early Intervention Service Coordinator. They will provide you with information as to how to access the Health Department Early Intervention system. If your child is between the ages of 3 and 21, call your school district’s Special Services Office and ask for assistance. For any child, you should also discuss your concerns with your child’s Primary Care Physician to see if your child is progressing at an expected rate. If not, he/she may recommend further services.
- Who pays for these services? Once your child is referred to the Health Department or School system, they will conduct an intake on your child and provide your child with a comprehensive evaluation. If you child qualifies for services, therapists will be contacted to treat your child. This service is paid for by the Health Department for children 0-3 and by the school system for children 3-5. Your private insurance will be billed for services provided. However, there is no cost at this time, to the family or child in any way for any service recommended by the Health Department.
